Bin collection days

Council provides landfill and recycling collection services across the Shire through the application of a competitive tender process. This process is applied to regular collections of landfill, recycling, green waste, glass and street litter bins, as well as the management and operation of transfer stations within the Shire.

Batteries cannot be placed into street bins. Batteries can be recycled for free at Beaufort, Avoca and Snake Valley transfer stations.

Collections will continue on days of Total Fire Ban.

Information about bins and their placement

All bins are provided to the resident by Council and remain the property of Council. Bins are to be left with the property if/when the residents leave.

Replacement bins for any damaged or stolen bins will be provided by Council based on a statutory declaration being provided.

To ensure that your bins are collected, it's important to make sure your bins are placemented correctly:

  • Always put the bins out with the handle facing the house.
  • Place the bins a minimum of 60cm apart when both are placed out on the same day.
  • Do not place the bins behind or near parked cars.
  • Leave at least 1m between obstructions such as trees and powerpoles.
  • Place bins out the night before collection day with the lids closed.
  • Do not place large or hazardous materials, such as batteries, in your bins.
  • Do not place your recycling in bags.
  • Please do not overfill or place anything on top of the bins – the lid should be able to fully close. Overfilled bins won't be picked up as they can spill when being lifted into the truck. Ensuring the lid closes also means the waste material are less likely to blow away, spill rubbish or invite vermin. Bins with over 70kgs of material in them will not be collected.

Due to the time commitment each day, bins not placed out on time cannot be collected until the following collection. It's best to put your bin out the night before collection day to ensure your bins are ready.

Extra bins can be provided by Council for $70 per annum for a household. Additional bins for a commercial business are $100 per annum.

Secure your bin lid

Bin getting blown over? Council now has bin latches available for purchase to secure your waste or recycling bins.

The latches are a rubber device that connects to the handle of your bin lid and hooks under the edge of the bin. The latch releases when the bin is raised to be emptied into the truck.

Council is making the latches available to the public for $10.85, and you can buy them at the Beaufort Council Office, Beaufort Community Resource Centre or the Avoca Information and Community Centre.

Please get in touch with Council if you are unable to make it to one of these locations.

The video below shows how to attach the latch.
