Infectious Disease
In Victoria, Infectious Diseases are monitored by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). They rely upon medical practitioners to notify of any cases of certain Notifiable Diseases under the Public Health & Wellbeing Regulations 2009, enabling DHHS to investigate and minimise the risk of the infection spreading.
When there is notification of a case of infectious disease our Environmental Health Officer may conduct an investigation and compile data for evaluation by DHHS.
Council’s Environmental Health Officer inspects registered Health Premises such as hairdressers and beauty salons, tattooists and body piercing establishments, to ensure compliance with the Public Health & Wellbeing Act 2008.
Swimming pools within the Shire are also visited and periodically sampled to ensure that the operators are disinfecting their recreational water to prevent infectious disease outbreaks.
For further information about Notifiable Infectious Diseases, it is recommended that you look at the DHHS page on Disease Information and Advice.
If you believe you have an infectious disease, please visit your local General Practitioner as soon as possible.
