Hair, Beauty, Piercing & Tattoo Business

The Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 requires that businesses trading in the following areas be registered with their local Council:

  • Hairdressing
  • Beauty therapy – including facials, manicures, pedicures and waxing
  • Skin penetration procedures – including tattooing, body piercing, ear piercing and electrolysis

 

These businesses, and any others involving penetration of the skin, are required to be registered with Council to ensure they comply with the Health (Infectious Disease) regulations under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.

If the only activity you carry out in your Health Business is Hairdressing you may apply for On-going registration which does not need to be renewed each year.

 

Transfer or Register a New Business

If you are opening, buying or selling a health premises you will need to fill out one of the following forms.

 

When transferring a health premises, an inspection needs to be conducted within two weeks of when you commence trading.

 

Other Permits May Be Required

Depending on the type of business and the changes you may be making to the premises you plan to run your Health business from you may also need to contact Council's Building and Planning Departments to obtain other relevant permits.

Unless your business has an on-going registration (hairdressing only) annual renewals are due on 31st December each year.
