Pyrenees Shire Council in partnership with Perennial Pasture Systems are proud to host this event to assist farmers impacted by recent floods, fires and drought.
Key topics:
- The current situation.
- What condition is my pasture in and assessing the damage.
- Should I destock.
- When and what to invest in to recover or develop my pasture.
- Learnings from past experience.

Lisa Warn - Developing a pasture recovery plan
Issues/topics to be covered:
- For fire affected properties how hot was the fire, how badly was the pasture damaged and what to look for
- Impacts drought has on pasture
- Pasture measurement
- Donated hay. Nutritional value and risk of weed seeds
- Destocking strategies
- Strategies to repair bare ground and mitigate future fire and flood events
Interval (15 minutes)
Tom Silcock, case study farmer – Decisions, actions and reflections following past fire events (20 minutes)
- Developing and implementing a recovery plan
- What did I do that’s different,
- Actions I have taken, what did and what didn’t work, would I do things differently in future
- Looking after yourself
Rob Shae – The role of chicory and the PPS group (30 minutes)
- As a mitigation tool
- Factors to consider, e.g. soil types, fertility levels, climate etc.
- How PPS supports its members to grow good pastures
Panel Session (15 - 20 minutes)
Q&A for each of the panel members
Ballarat Community Health (5 minutes)
