Fire-impacted residents are being encouraged to apply for individual grants of up to $5,000 to replace damaged and destroyed items such as water infrastructure, equipment and fencing, thanks to Stockyard Hill Wind Farm.

Pyrenees Mayor Cr Robert Vance said the Stockyard Hill Wind Farm Fire Recovery Fund 2024 aimed to help residents with their recovery from the devastating Bayindeen fires earlier this year.

Cr Vance said Pyrenees Shire Council, which is administering the fund, was very grateful to Stockyard Hill Wind Farm for its support of the community.

“Council understands just how tough it’s been for our fire-impacted residents and has been working with them since the event to help them through the recovery process,” he said.

“The Stockyard Hill Wind Farm Fire Recovery Fund is another step forward for these people, who I know will be very grateful for this opportunity. It’s a very simple application process but Council’s Recovery Team members are here to help residents with their applications if they need support.”

Stockyard Hill Wind Farm General Manager Antony Beard said that the wind farm wanted to lend a hand to residents who have had infrastructure destroyed during the recent bushfires.

“The wind farm is part of the local community and we are acutely aware of the impact of these bushfires. Stockyard Hill Wind Farm is pleased to be able to provide up to $50,000 in funding for those who most need support at this challenging time.”

To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be a resident of Pyrenees Shire Council (within fire-affected areas) and be able to demonstrate the damage or destruction of assets by the fire.

Grant funds must be used to replace destroyed or damaged items such as water supplies and/or infrastructure, tools and equipment, and fencing materials that are not covered by insurance or alternative sources of support (financial or otherwise).
