During a time of extended hot weather, it's important for you and your loved ones to take care of your health and wellbeing, especially if you have an ongoing health condition, are over 65, are pregnant or have babies and small children. We've put some tips from the Victorian Department of Health below.
Don't forget - Pyrenees Shire pools in Beaufort, Avoca and Landsborough are open as usual during this time and our air-conditioned libraries are also available if you need somewhere cool to go. Opening hours can be found at www.pyrenees.vic.gov.au

Tips for staying well during a heatwave
- Stay cool - use air conditioning or a fan. Wear light and loose clothing. Keep skin wet, using a spray bottle or damp sponge and by taking cool showers. If you can’t keep cool at home, think about where you can go on hot days to cool down such as public pools or air-conditioned buildings.
- Stay hydrated - drink plenty of water. Keep drinking fluids before you feel thirsty, especially if outdoors and performing physical activity.
- Stay connected and check in with family, friends and neighbours - let people know you are OK and check in on those at increased risk or who may need your support. Look out for those who might be more affected by the heat, like the those over the age of 65 years, young children or people with certain medical conditions.
- Stay up to date with the weather forecasts - visit the Bureau of Meteorology website and plan ahead, scheduling activities in the coolest part of the day.
- Hot cars kill - NEVER leave kids, adults or pets in cars. The temperature inside a parked car can double within minutes.
- Get help if needed - you can call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 606 024, contact the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department at https://www.vved.org.au/ or in an emergency call 000.
