Fire Danger Period for Pyrenees Shire begins Monday 18 November
Published on 13 November 2024
Pyrenees Shire Council is reminding residents to ensure their properties are ready for the fire danger period.
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has declared the Fire Danger Period for the Pyrenees will start next week at 1am on Monday 18 November.
This means fire and other restrictions come into effect. Residents are urged to check the CFA’s website for more information about what you can and can’t do during the Fire Danger Period: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/can.
Making sure your property is prepared is important. Residents can do this by
- keeping grass around the property 10cm or shorter in length,
- Cleaning your gutters regularly,
- removing flammable items from decks and verandas,
- removing dry leaves, twigs and other fire hazards,
- moving woodpiles away from your house.
Transfer stations in Pyrenees offer free green waste disposal of up to one cubic metre at a time to its residents. Domestic waste, steel, and recyclables, including paper and cardboard, are also free for residents.
Council’s Community Safety and Amenity team has started fire prevention inspections. Properties which are identified as a potential fire hazard will be issued with a fire prevention notice.
Property owners who fail to comply with a fire prevention notice face an on-the spot fine.
If residents need help to complete fire prevention works, a list of fire hazard removal contractors can be found on Council’s website: www.pyrenees.vic.gov.au/firehazardcontractors.
Further information to help residents prepare for the fire season can be found on the CFA’s website: www.cfa.vic.gov.au.
