Pyrenees Shire Council will continue to serve the community over the upcoming Christmas – New Year holiday season. Read on for service arrangement details, which will be added to as more information comes to hand.

Council's Beaufort office
The Council's Beaufort office at 5 Lawrence Street will be closed from 12pm for the afternoon on Friday 20 December to allow staff to attend the Christmas function. The Beaufort office will then be closed for the Christmas break from 3pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024, reopening at 9am on Thursday 2 January 2025.
Resource / Information Centres and Libraries
The Avoca Information and Community Centre and the Beaufort Community Resource Centre will be open as follows:
- Friday 20 December – 10am to 12pm
- Monday 23 December – 10am to 5pm
- Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24 December – 10am to 3pm
- Christmas Day, Wednesday 25 December – CLOSED
- Boxing Day, Thursday 26 December – CLOSED
- Friday 27 December – 10am to 5pm
- Saturday 28 December – 10am to 1pm
- Sunday 29 December – 10am to 1pm
- Monday 30 December – 10am to 5pm
- New Year's Eve, Tuesday 31 December – 10am-3pm
- New Year's Day, Wednesday 1 January 2025 – CLOSED
- Thursday 2 January 2025 – 10am to 5pm
- Friday 3 January 2025 – 10am to 5pm
Waste collection changes over Christmas/New Years
There will be some changes to kerbside bin collections over Christmas and New Years. Collections on Christmas Day and New Years Day will be collected the following day, with each collection day moving forward one day for the week until Saturday.
Transfer stations - Council's transfer stations are closed on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and on days of Total Fire Ban and/or days rated Catastrophic by the Country Fire Authority (CFA). Transfer station opening times can be found here: www.pyrenees.vic.gov.au/wasterecycle
Christmas week changes
- Wednesday 25 December bins will be collected on Thursday 26 December (Avoca waste and recycling; Snake Valley (Area 3) glass)
- Thursday 26 December bins will be collected on Friday 27 December (Central recycling)
- Friday 27 December bins will be collected on Saturday 28 December (Beaufort waste and recycling; Northern (Area 3) glass)
New Years week changes
- Wednesday 1 January bins will be collected on Thursday 2 January (Avoca waste and green waste; Central (Area 3) glass)
- Thursday 2 January bins will be collected on Friday 3 January (Central waste)
- Friday 3 January bins will be collected on Saturday 4 January (Beaufort waste and green waste; Central (Area 1) glass)
Emergency contact numbers - after hours
For Council-related issues such as local laws (animals), roads and drainage, please call 1300 PYRENEES (1300 797 363) and you will be redirected. You will need to leave a message, and the on-call officer will assess the issue and action it if required.
