Small and large projects are happening across Pyrenees Shire; from building the Lexton Hub to small renovations at local halls.

Council is working with communities and funding partners to deliver these important projects; including State and Federal governments. 

Council will continue to work on community infrastructure projects within the scope of State Government COVID-19 restrictions. We might experience delays due to material supply or because of restrictions within the contracting and manufacturing sectors.

Here’s a snapshot of the projects, some of which are underway and some will start once the weather improves:

Carngham Female Friendly Changerooms: Building works have been completed and after some minor external works and site clean up, the facility will be handed over to the Committee of Management.

Snake Valley Linear Park: Skate Park construction is open for use, with only minor landscaping works to be finalised. 

Lexton Hub: this is a brand new community multi-purpose building that will house sporting and social activities. Council is working on the practical elements of this project, such as ensuring septic and wastewater requirements will be catered for.  The contract for this project has been awarded to SJ Weir. 

Avoca Playground: SHAE Constructions will build the Avoca Inclusive Playspace in High Street, Avoca. This playground will cater for children of all abilities and will add to Avoca’s visitor offering. Work has been delayed by the delivery of specialised playground equipment to Australia, and construction is not expected to commence until the new year.

Avoca BBQ Shelter: This project is finished. 

Avoca footpaths: North Street and Boyce Street footpaths are completed.

Avoca safe crossing points: detailed design work for the four crossing points is underway, once completed the design will be shared with the community. 

Avoca Shire Hall: upgrade work is continuing, with fire safety the focus for the entire building.

Drought projects; under the Australian Government's Drought Communities Program

Minor renovation works at Trawalla, Brewster, Snake Valley, Landsborough, Barkly, Moonambel and Carranballac: Council is working with the hall committees at these locations on minor works. A new barbecue shelter is complete at Snake Valley, a new portico has been installed at the Brewster Hall, the floor at Evansford Community Centre has been replaced, a new fence for the Redbank Hall and stairs have been replaced at Barkly Hall. New windows have been installed at Trawalla Hall, access to Moonambel Hall has been completed and a kitchen servery window has been installed at Carranballac. A reverse cycle air conditioning system at Crowlands Hall is installed and solar panels are being installed at the Natte Yallock Recreation Reserve.

Beaufort Lake Foreshore revamp: work has started on this project, including initial tree and vegetation management work. The concept plan is available via this link and more information on the project elements is on this page.

New cabin at Beaufort Lake Caravan Park: a new cabin which will meet DDA Compliance is to be installed at the park. Plans are to be drawn up for the project.

Avoca Country Golf Bowling Club: A new synthetic green has been installed at the club. New shade shelters at the north and south ends are being installed this month (November).

Avoca Lions Park: The parking area at the Avoca Lions Park has been sealed.

Natte Yallock Carpark: The car park has been sealed. 

Pyrenees Futures Plans at Lexton, Snake Valley and Waubra: Design elements are near completion with a range of new features and upgrades within the townships of Lexton, Snake Valley and Waubra. This includes greater public seating, signage upgrades, tree planting, road safety measures and path/lighting improvements. These ideas were borne through the Pyrenees Futures consultation process with the respective town residents.

Moonambel pathway: Works are nearing completion on the Moonambel Path upgrade. 

Bore upgrades: a new bore has been drilled at Moonambel at Wright Street, and others have been drilled and cased at Crossroads and Waterloo. Tank pads have been completed at Homebush, Avoca, Homebush Pump Lane and Waterloo. The installation of tanks and equipment across various sites will be ongoing in October.
